SHZK ZK880 series vector heavy-duty VFD drives, 0.75 to 720 kW, three-phase 380V motor speed control

ZK880 Series — Three-Phase 380V AC Drive, 0.75 to 720 kW

The ZK880 series is our general-purpose three-phase drive: 380V input, 380V output, sensorless vector control, and 33 power ratings running from 0.75 kW up to 720 kW. It is the series we ship when the customer has a normal 380V three-phase supply and needs one drive family that covers everything from a small fan to a 720 kW compressor — same parameter structure, same keypad, same wiring convention across the whole range.

Every rating in this series uses space vector PWM (SVPWM) with low-frequency dead-zone compensation, which is what keeps torque steady below 5 Hz where a plain V/F drive starts to cog. Starting frequency is adjustable from 0.4 Hz, and manual torque boost covers 0.1% to 30.0% for loads that need a push at standstill.

All models listed on this page are G type (general-purpose, constant torque). P type (fan and pump, variable torque) is available on request — see the G vs P section below for the overload difference.

Key Features

  • Sensorless vector control with optimised low-frequency dead-zone compensation — stable torque down to 0.4 Hz without an encoder.
  • 0–600 Hz output, 0.01 Hz digital resolution — covers standard 50/60 Hz motors as well as high-speed spindle and centrifuge applications.
  • Overload 150% for 60 s / 180% for 2 s on G type, enough to ride through a normal direct-on-line motor start.
  • Built-in PID — closes a pressure, flow, temperature or level loop without an external controller.
  • Multi-speed operation through the built-in PLC or the control terminals — up to 5 programmable digital inputs, forward and reverse included.
  • Three command sources — keypad, control terminals, or RS485. Switching between them is a parameter change, not a rewiring job.
  • 2 analog inputs (4–20 mA or 0–10 V) and 2 relay outputs, plus a selectable 4–20 mA / 0–10 V analog output for a panel meter.
  • Full protection set — overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overheating, overload.

Rated current is the drive’s continuous output current. Size the motor so its full-load current stays at or below this figure. The drive rating must be equal to or greater than the motor rating — never smaller.

G Type vs P Type — Which Overload Do You Need?

Every model listed above is G type. The difference matters when you size the drive:

G type (general purpose) is rated for constant torque — conveyors, mixers, extruders, screw pumps, crushers, compressors. It holds 150% of rated current for a full minute and 180% for two seconds, which covers the inrush of a loaded start. Size it at or slightly above the motor rating.

P type (fan and pump) is rated for variable torque, where the load falls away as speed drops — centrifugal fans, centrifugal pumps, cooling tower fans. It holds 120% for a minute and 150% for two seconds, and because the load never demands that inrush, a P-type drive can often run a motor one frame larger than its own rating.

The mistake we see most often: fitting a P-type drive to a conveyor because the nameplate power matched. It trips on overload during the first loaded start. If the load is constant torque, take the G type even when the numbers suggest the P type would do.

ZK880 or 300N — Which Series Fits Your Supply?

The two series overlap in power range, so the supply voltage decides it:

Requirement ZK880 Series 300N Series
Input supply 3-phase 380V only 1-phase 220V, 3-phase 220V, 3-phase 380–480V, or PV DC
Power range 0.75 – 720 kW 0.75 – 800 kW (T4), 0.75 – 75 kW (T2), 0.75 – 11 kW (S3), 0.75 – 5.5 kW (S2)
Output frequency 0–600 Hz 0–500 Hz
Best for Plants with a normal 380V three-phase supply, one drive family across the whole site Sites with only single-phase power, 480V supplies, or solar DC input

If your site has 380V three-phase power and you want one parameter set across every drive from a 1 kW fan to a 500 kW compressor, take the ZK880. If you only have single-phase 220V and need 380V three-phase out, that is the 300N S3 series. If the supply is 480V, use the 300N T4 series.

Applications

  • Water supply and irrigation — constant pressure with the built-in PID, no external controller.
  • HVAC — AHU fans, cooling tower fans, return-air fans on variable-torque duty (P type).
  • Compressors — screw and reciprocating, constant-torque duty (G type).
  • Conveyors and material handling — soft start, controlled stop, multi-speed via terminals.
  • Mixers, agitators, extruders — high starting torque, G type with 180% short-time overload.
  • Crushers and mills — heavy inrush, sized on the G type rating.
  • Machine tools — 0–600 Hz output for spindle duty, 0.01 Hz resolution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the ZK880 run a 220V single-phase motor?

No. This series is three-phase 380V input throughout. For a single-phase 220V supply with a three-phase 220V output, use the 300N S2 series. For single-phase 220V in and three-phase 380V out, use the 300N S3 series.

What does the N or T in the model name mean?

It marks the mechanical frame group within the series — the 0.75 to 5.5 kW ratings and the 22 kW rating use one frame family, the 7.5 to 18.5 kW ratings use another, and from 30 kW up the models carry no letter. Electrical specifications are the same across the whole series; only the enclosure and mounting differ. When you order, quote the full model number exactly as listed in the table above.

Is a braking unit built in?

The ZK880 series is specified without an internal braking chopper as standard. If your application needs controlled deceleration — cranes, hoists, high-inertia fans — tell us at the enquiry stage and we will quote the braking option. For pumps and fans you normally do not need one.

What cable and breaker should I use?

Size the input cable and breaker from the rated current in the model table, with local derating rules applied. A 75 kW unit draws 150 A, a 250 kW unit draws 470 A. Do not size from motor power alone — a motor rewound or oversized for its duty will pull more than the nameplate suggests.

Do you supply the P type for fan and pump duty?

Yes, on request. The model table above lists the G type ratings we hold in the standard range. P type ratings follow the same power steps with the lower overload allowance described above — ask us for the P type model number and price for your power size.
