VFD Keypad Operation Guide: Lock, Copy & Dual Display

When you are standing on the production floor, mastering vfd keypad operation is the difference between a smooth commissioning and a frustrating afternoon of troubleshooting. I’ve seen it a hundred times on our test line at SHZK: a technician accidentally bumps a setting, or we need to replicate a perfectly tuned setup across fifty machines. That is exactly why the SHZK 300N series was designed with a robust dual display, intuitive locking mechanisms, and a streamlined vfd parameter copy function. Let’s walk through how we configure and verify these features right here in the workshop.

Understanding the Dual Display and Status Indicators

The SHZK 300N keypad features a dual-screen layout that gives you immediate visual feedback without digging through menus. The upper 5-digit LED main screen handles your primary readouts—set frequency, output frequency, and alarm codes. The lower display is where the real monitoring power lives. By configuring parameters P7-17 and P7-18, you can map the lower screen to specific menu items from the Group U0 monitoring data table.

Around the screens, the unit indicators tell you exactly what you are looking at: HZ for frequency, A for current, V for voltage. When HZ and A illuminate together, you are viewing RPM. When A and V light up together, the drive is showing a percentage value.

Pay close attention to the status LEDs. The LOCAL/REMOTE indicator dictates your control source: Off means panel control, steady On means terminal control, and flashing means communication control (typically via a Modbus RTU specification network). The TUNE/TC LED is critical during commissioning; a slow blink means the drive is in autotuning mode. We always ensure the motor is cold and uncoupled before triggering this, aligning with IEC 60034 standards for rotating electrical machines.

Quick Parameter Reference: Keypad Configuration

Before you start modifying settings, you need to know the modification rules. The 300N manual categorizes parameters with specific symbols to prevent operational errors on the floor.

☆ (Star)

Can be modified whether the inverter is stopped or running. Ideal for minor frequency tweaks during live testing.

★ (Solid Star)

Cannot be changed while the inverter is in operation. You must stop the drive to alter these core configuration settings.

● (Circle)

Read-only. Displays actual test data like real-time current or temperature. Not editable.

P7-01 (MF.K)

Defines the switching function of the Multi-function Selection Key on the keypad. Highly customizable for quick access.

Executing VFD Parameter Copy and Locking

SHZK 300N assembly line where engineers perform vfd parameter copy testing

Just last week on the assembly line, we had a batch of 11kW drives going to a packaging facility. The client needed exact V/f curves and torque boost settings replicated. As defined in standard variable-frequency drive architecture, manually punching in P-group parameters for dozens of units is a recipe for human error.

Instead, we tuned the first drive, executed the upload to the removable keypad, and downloaded it to the remaining units in minutes. The vfd parameter copy function in the P7 group handles the upload/download sequence seamlessly. Once the parameters were verified on the lower display, we engaged the keypad lock. When locked, the display shows a -LOC- indicator, preventing machine operators from accidentally altering critical motor data.

This workflow—tune once, copy, and lock—is how we ensure consistency whether we are testing a single 1.5kW unit or wiring up an 800kW cabinet.

Monitor Verification Table

Parameter Function Application on Test Floor
P7-17 Lower display monitoring function 1 Mapped to U0 group to show real-time output current (A) during load testing.
P7-18 Lower display monitoring function 2 Mapped to U0 group to show DC bus voltage (V) to verify rectifier health.
P7-01 MF.K Key Definition Set to toggle between frequency and current readouts without entering the menu.
